The University of Colorado, Denver, has been educating physical therapists since 1948 and the program is accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association. The doctoral degree requires at least three years of full time study, and includes a clinical experience component. Students work closely with faculty mentors, and gain experience by working in the university health center and through teaching in their areas of specialty. Applications are reviewed in January.

The University of Delaware offers a doctorate in physical therapy, offering substantial clinical experience.
