Vanderbilt was ranked No. 1 for its Special Education Doctorate Program in 2009 by "U.S. News and World Report." The university offers concentrations in four areas: Early Childhood, High Incidence, Severe Disabilities and the Education of Students with Visual Impairments. Many of Vanderbilt's PhD students are able to apply for grants through the U.S. Department of Education and partake in research studies to better understand the importance of Special Education learning. Students who are accepted into Vanderbilt's program are granted full tuition and a monthly stipend for as many as five years of study.
