Part-Time Business Ph.D. Programs

Part-time Ph.D. programs in business are few and far between. The number of part-time Doctor of Business Administration programs is greater, but some part-time Ph.D. programs do exist. These programs are more academically oriented and generally offer some type of innovative format for taking courses such as online classes or hybrid classes that involve both online and classroom study.
  1. Rutgers Business School

    • Rutgers University is one of the few established universities offering a part-time Ph.D. program in business. The only major difference between the part- and full-time program is the fee structure. Full-time students pay on a per term basis, while part-time students pay based on the number of credit hours they take. New Jersey residents pay less than non-residents. The program offers several areas of specialization: accounting; supply chain management; science, technology and management; accounting information systems; organization management; marketing and management science; finance; international business; and information technology. The school also offers joint-degree programs in areas like psychology and statistics. Individualized programs of study are also possible.

ISM has developed an e-learning option for busy executives who wish to pursue a Ph.D. or D.B.A. in the field of business. Most of the program's curriculum is taken via online learning, although 25 percent of the course work comes through traditional seminars. As an international school of business, ISM schedules these courses at its other campus locations in Tokyo, Paris and Shanghai in addition to New York City. Seminars and e-courses include areas of study such as international organizational behavior, multicultural management and effective international joint-venture management.
