About College Funding for Single Mothers

Whether you are going back to college, trying to stay in school or earning another degree, there are several grants, loans and scholarships available for single mothers. Some have a low-income requirement or are for specific situations, such as a survivor of domestic violence. Make sure you follow all guidelines when applying.
  1. Frederic J.C. Liggin Single Mother's Scholarship Fund

    • The Frederic J.C. Liggin Phase Three Productions Single Mother's Scholarship Fund (see Resources) is a $1,000 scholarship given to a single mother who writes the winning one-page essay. This scholarship can be used at any learning institution in Tennessee.

    Raise the Nation

    • Raise the Nation is a nonprofit group that provides funding and scholarships to single mothers and fathers who want to go to college.

    Jeannette Rankin Foundation

    • The Jeannette Rankin Foundation (see Resources) provides scholarships to low-income women who are 35 and older. Goals, challenges and an applicant's financial situation are all taken into consideration.

    Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation

    • The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation (see Resources) gives funding to low-income mothers who wish to continue their education, go back to school or receive some type of training. Individual awards equal as much as $2,000.

    Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards Program

    • The Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards Program (see Resources) offers funding to heads of household and single women who wish to continue their education. It is based in Philadelphia but gives awards to women throughout the United States and the world.
