New York University's famous summer program offers a wide variety of academic and creative classes and workshops for high school and college students. Approximately 3,000 students come from all over the world for summer studies at the university's Greenwich Village campus. Classes are offered in the humanities and science. Creative students can study art, take music lessons and participate in theater workshops. NYU students apply for financial aid directly from the university. Students from other colleges can apply for NYU-funded scholarships and seek financial aid from their home institution. International students cannot apply for NYU Summer scholarships. Academically qualified high school students who demonstrate financial need can apply for scholarships directly from NYU.

Academically talented high school students can apply for the secondary-school program at the country's oldest university and receive financial aid to help defray costs. The program allows students to take real Harvard classes, earn college credit, experience college life and interact with world-renowned professors. Approximately 1,000 students participate in the program each summer. Tuition and fees for the seven-week program in 2010 totaled $9,785. Financial aid is based on need and academic achievement. The school encourages students to apply early for aid. Late applications will not be processed. Harvard prefers students to use its online aid application. International students are not eligible for financial assistance.

Idyllwild is a private performing arts boarding school in the mountains of Southern California with a summer arts program for children, families and adults. Classes, seminars and workshops are provided in all areas of visual and performing arts. Students live in Idyllwild dormitories during their stay. The school offers financial aid to four groups: gifted students from 8 to 18 years old; student musicians in regional or national honor groups; Native American pre-teens; and female high school students from the California counties of San Bernardino and Riverside. Award amounts vary depending on need. Adults cannot apply for aid.
