This downtown Manhattan community college features a childcare/early childhood education program offering study in infant/toddler and pre-school areas. Those completing the two-year course earn an associate of science (A.S) degree. Students work with local youngsters in the childcare facilities and those enrolled in the national Head Start program. The infant/toddler program, focusing on birth to age three, includes curriculum and program planning, along with a practicum. The pre-school/elementary coursework, ages three to six years, includes early childhood education, the special child, and the practicum.

Since 1916, the Bank Street College of Education (BSCE) has been a pioneer in the field of early childhood education. Internationally recognized in the field, it includes not only graduate programs, but continuing professional study courses for teachers, administrators, childcare providers, and social workers. Each year, 1,000 students take courses in their graduate program, and BSCE works with the New York City public school system.
