Early Childhood Education Programs in Colorado

Early childhood education instructors nurture and teach preschool and lower elementary school students, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Employment of preschool teachers in particular is expected to increase by 19 percent from 2008 to 2018. The bachelor of arts in liberal arts with early childhood education licensure program teaches students curriculum development as well as preschool administration and management training.       This program is especially designed for working adults with other professional and personal commitments. Students can complete the accelerated program in about 16 months by attending weeknight and weekend classes. Following the program, students can teach preschool through third grade.     Colorado Mountain College

    • Colorado Mountain College offers certificate programs in early childhood group leading and directing as well as an associate degree program in early childhood education. The college has several campuses in Colorado: Alpine, Roaring Fork, West Garfield, Summit, Timberline and Vail-Eagle Valley.

      The early childhood education program trains students who are interested in working with children up through age eight. Course topics include nutrition/safety, guidance strategies for children, infant/toddler theory and practice, curriculum development and administration.     Naropa University

    • Students at Naropa University in Boulder can complete a bachelor's degree or certificate program in early childhood education. The university is a private, Buddhist-inspired college. Courses cover topics such as culture and critical pedagogy, holistic and contemplative teaching traditions, poverty matters, learning styles and even energy/expression in the classroom. The program additionally allows students to complete an internship with experienced teachers in affiliated contemplative preschools.

      The university has a lab school called Alaya Preschool that offers students hands-on experience. Founded in 1974, Naropa University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
