Fontonne University in St. Louis, Missouri, has a program in family and consumer sciences that offers students an option to pursue a teaching certificate. Students will receive hands-on experience from the beginning of the program working with children and adolescents. Students who complete the program will be certified to teach children from birth to 12th grade. Courses include essential concepts for health and fitness, nutrition and wellness, infant and toddler development, problems in environmental designs and program design and administration.

There are three options for teacher certification: the composite teaching certificate allows you to teach all high school family and consumer science courses; the hospitality and food science certification allows you to teach hospitality, food and nutrition courses; and the human development and family studies certification allows you to teach parenting, family and child development courses.
