Ohio Area HVAC Training Colleges for Certification

HVAC is an acronym for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An individual employed in this field is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of heating and cooling equipment. Some HVAC technicians choose to specialize in either heating or cooling in either residential, commercial or industrial applications. Those interested in a career in the HVAC industry typically pursue a college certificate, diploma or associate's degree.

The one-year certificate program and the two-year associate degree both prepare students for careers as HVAC technicians, equipment installers or oil burner mechanics. Students learn the fundamentals of the HVAC trade, including equipment design, installation, maintenance and repair. The training includes preparation for a refrigerant-handling certification examination. The associate degree program prepares students for broader career options by teaching mechanical, electrical and welding courses. Students may select from day or evening programs. Those who choose to complete the certificate program may later apply those courses toward an associate degree.
