The Best Colleges or Universities for Psychology in Ohio

Several of Ohio's top-ranked colleges and universities offer degree programs in psychology. Three of Ohio's top-ranked liberal arts colleges offer undergraduate programs in psychology that can prepare students for further study in the field as well as a variety of other career paths. Ohio's top-ranked university offers an undergraduate psychology program as well as multiple different graduate psychology programs.

    • Oberlin College is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1833. As of 2009, the school had about 2,800 undergraduates. The college's psychology department offers major and minor programs of study that prepare students for academic psychology careers as well as a variety of other professions. All psychology majors must take six required courses and an upper-level seminar in the department. Oberlin College tied for 22nd in U.S. News & World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

    Kenyon College

    • Kenyon College is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1824. As of 2009, the school had about 1,600 undergraduates. Kenyon's psychology department emphasizes research and introduces students to the practice of research in the introductory psychology course. Kenyon College also requires all of its students to complete a senior thesis, referred to as the Senior Exercise, within their major. Psychology majors must take three required courses within the department. Kenyon College tied for 33rd in U.S. News & World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

    Denison University

    • Students in the psychology department at Denison can work toward the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Students and faculty in the department can take advantages of the school's many psychology facilities, including the perception lab, psychophysics lab, cognition lab, psychobiology lab and observation suite. Denison students have a variety of research opportunities. They can conduct independent or collaborative research during the academic year, as well as during the Summer Scholars Program at the school.     • Case Western Reserve University is a private university that opened in 1826. As of 2009, the school had about 4,300 undergraduates and 5,400 graduate students. The university's psychology department offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Undergraduates can major or minor in psychology. Graduate students in the department's clinical psychology program can specialize in adult psychology and gerontology, child and family psychology or pediatric psychology.
