The Best Universities in Ontario for Psychology

Home to major cities such as Toronto and Ottawa, Ontario has a vibrant culture with strong network of educational institutions and several Ontario universities offer reputable programs in psychology. The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Board ranks psychology programs based on test results of the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, a standard exam taken by graduates. The Social Psychology Network website has a rankings list that is based on graduates' test scores from 1997 to 2006 and includes universities in Canada and the United States; three universities in Ontario are ranked in the top 50.

    • Ranked number three on the list is the University of Waterloo. The University of Waterloo boasts a rigorous psychology program led by faculty of international renown. The psychology department offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees as well as minors in psychology. Undergraduate degrees offered include a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree as well as honors specialization programs. Graduate and doctoral students choose from a variety of focus areas such as behavioral neuroscience, clinical psychology, cognitive psychology and developmental psychology. The school is also home to the Early Childhood Education Centre and the Centre for Mental Health Research.

    University of Western Ontario

    • Number 27 on the list is the University of Western Ontario, located in the city of London. The psychology department offers undergraduate degrees, minors, double-major options and honors specialization programs as well as graduate and doctoral programs. The department is made up of several individual research areas, such as behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and personality and measurement.     University of Windsor

    • Number 42 on the list is the University of Windsor. The University of Windsor's psychology department focuses primarily on clinical psychology. Undergraduate degrees offered include the general and honors bachelor of arts degrees and an honors bachelor of science degree in behavior, cognition and neuroscience. Graduate students focus on either adult and child clinical psychology, applied social psychology or neuropsychology. The school is home to a number of resource centers including the Emotion-Cognition Research Laboratory, the Health and Well-being Lab and the Health Research Centre for the Study of Violence against Women.
