    • Cooking School at the Inn at Meander Plantation, 46 miles outside of Fredericksburg in the town of Locust Dale, offers two-day culinary educational events throughout the year. The program is offered by the Inn and presented by Meander Plantation chefs. Students are taught recipes, cooking facts and culinary techniques. Culinary topics include seasonal American cuisine, international dishes, holidays and food from the sea. Students who complete the program get a Meander Plantation apron, recipe notebook and cooking tips.

    The Art Institute of Washington

    • The Art Institute of Washington, 54 miles outside of Fredericksburg in Arlington, offers several culinary arts degree programs. Students can pursue a skills diploma, baking and pastry diploma, culinary arts associate's degree, culinary arts associates degree with a concentration in baking and pastry, and a bachelor's degree in culinary arts management. Students will study the food and business sides of culinary arts. Classes include nutrition, cooking techniques, regional cuisine, international cuisine, knife and hand skills, a la carte, and planning and cost control. The programs vary in length and in graduation requirements. Diploma programs will take three to four quarters to complete. Associate degree programs will take seven to eight quarters and the bachelor's program will take 12 quarters and 192 credit hours.

    J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College

    • J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is in Richmond, 60 miles from Fredericksburg. The school offers an associate of applied science degree in culinary arts that takes two years to complete. The program requires 69 credit hours. In addition to general courses in math, science and humanities, students will study sanitation and safety, hospitality industry computers, principles of baking, recipe and menu management, and world cuisines. Also required are classes in the preparation of soup, stocks, sauces, fruits, vegetables, starches, meats, seafood and poultry. Also offered is a two-semester pastry arts career studies certificate and an American Culinary Federation certification program that requires three classes to complete.
