Colleges That Offer Ultrasound Technician Programs

Ultrasound technician programs typically take between one and two years to complete. The programs prepare students for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Students who complete the programs and pass the certification exam can enter into the field of ultrasound technology as a sonographer.

    • Bellevue College has a diagnostic ultrasound technology program that prepares students to become nationally certified as a diagnostic medical sonographer. The program consists of eight quarters of full-time study that covers topics including vascular technology, obstetrical and gynecological sonography, acoustical principles and pathophysiology. Students who complete the program earn an associate's degree.

    Lincoln University

    • Lincoln University has an ultrasound technician program that lasts 80 weeks on a full-time schedule, whether students opt for the daytime or evening program. The program consists of four modules: core courses, advanced ultrasound courses, advanced ECG courses and externships. Students take courses that include medical terminology, abdomen and small parts, introduction to echocardiography and Doppler vascular imaging.

    Academy of Health Care Professionals

    • Academy of Health Care Professionals has a diagnostic medical ultrasound program that includes training in the areas of ultrasound sciences, which includes anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology and medical terminology; patient examination techniques, which include pediatric abdomen sonography and ultrasound instrumentation; and clinical practice, where students may perform procedures in sonography on actual patients.

    Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts

    • Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts has an ultrasound technology program that can be completed in 18 months. It includes classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Although there is no requirement for students to be on campus full time, the program is considered a full-time program. Students have the option of pursuing the daytime or evening option. Students cannot mix and match day and evening classes, and must choose between the two options.

    Baker College

    • Baker College has a vascular ultrasound technician program that focuses on teaching students the fundamentals and skills needed behind producing diagnostic images of the circulatory system by using high-frequency sound waves. Students learn the fundamentals of venous anatomy, pathophysiology and ultrasound. Students who complete the program receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in vascular ultrasound technology.
