Schools for Pharmacy Aides

Pharmacy aides are also referred to as pharmacy technicians. These professionals are trained in and educated about the techniques of assisting licensed pharmacists in preparing prescription medications, customer service and other administrative duties in a pharmacy. Several schools offer programs for those seeking to become pharmacy aides.
  1. Western Dakota Tech

    • Western Dakota Tech offers a pharmacy technician program that prepares students to assist pharmacists in settings including retail pharmacies and hospitals. The academic and clinical portions of the program teach students all aspects of dispensing prescriptions in the pharmacy. This 11-month program leads to a diploma. Courses include pharmacy operations, pharmacy calculations and medical terminology for the health professions.

    Lanier Technical College

    • Lanier Technical College offers a pharmacy assistant certificate program that is designed to be completed in four academic quarters. Students may enter this program in any quarter throughout the year as long as space is available. Evening classes are offered. Required courses include medical terminology, pharmacy technology, principles of dispensing, introduction to computers and pharmaceutical calculations.

    California State University at East Bay

    • California State University at East Bay offers a pharmacy technician program that leads to a certificate of completion. Coursework is conducted entirely online; clinical rotations are completed at a pharmacy of the student's choice. The self-paced program includes courses in an orientation to pharmacy, medical and pharmaceutical calculations and insurance and inventory procedures.

    Pikes Peak Community College

    • Pikes Peak Community College offers a pharmacy technician program that leads to an associate of applied science degree or a certificate of completion. Both programs are accredited and prepare students to take the certification examination. The certificate program requires seven courses and two clinicals. Courses include institutional pharmacy, interpersonal communications, medical terminology, customer service in health care and pharmaceutical calculation and compounding techniques.
