It has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs since 1970. The curriculum includes basic science classes, electives and departmental courses.     University of Illinois at Chicago

    • University of Illinois at Chicago offers a two-year, master of science program for biomedical visualization. It is the only program of its kind in the midwest. Students can concentrate in three areas including computer visualization, prosthetics/3D model design, and illustration and design. The degree requires eight hours of basic science core classes, 25 hours of biomedical visualization core classes, 10 hours of elective courses, and five hours of project research. A practicum experience is not required, although it offers a useful experience gaining credit working under a practitioner.

    • University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center offers a two-year, master of arts in biomedical communications at the Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The program was the first of its kind when it was created in 1947. The curriculum includes computer courses and science classes. Students must keep a cumulative B average and finish a thesis. Applicants must meet specific entrance requirements that include a bachelor's degree, GRE, art courses, science courses, and computer courses.
