How to Cite LexisNexis Academic Correctly

LexisNexis is an online commercial database that contains government, business, legal and other information. A user can access thousands of articles from newspapers, magazines, journals and transcripts. LexisNexis Academic provides access to full-text documents and is used primarily for research purposes. When a writer uses information found within the database, the source must be recognized in his bibliography. A writer can cite the online database LexisNexis using styles such as MLA, APA or Chicago Style.

      Assume we are citing the article The Challenges facing Midwest Honey Producers written by Allen Goodman and appearing on pages 12-26 of the January 15, 2010 journal Midwest Farming. The article is archived in the LexisNexis database that you accessed January 12, 2011. Assume the article has a digital object identifier (DOI) of doi:10.1087087667.

      Cite the journal using MLA style. Follow the same guidelines for citing a print periodical but drop the medium print, include the page numbers if they are available and next include the database title in italics. Follow the database with the publication medium web and the date of access. Cite the article in step 1 using MLA style as follows: Goodman, Allen. "The Challenges Facing Midwest Honey Producers." Midwest Farming (italicized) (2010): 12-26. LexisNexis (italicized). Web. 12 Jan. 2011

      When citing a periodical from the LexisNexis database using APA style, follow the same guidelines for citing a print periodical. Include the DOI (data object identifier) after the page number. Cite the article in Step 1 using APA style as follows: Goodman, Allen. (2010). The Challenges Facing Midwest Honey Producers. Midwest Farming (italicized), 12-26. doi:10.1087087667.
