Western North Carolina Massage Schools

Western North Carolina is the state's mountain region and includes the Appalachian Mountains. There are several massage schools in the area. Both Asheville and Rutherfordton offer massage therapy schools that are accredited. These schools consist of a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of massage and includes supervised, hands-on experience for the students.
  1. Asheville School of Massage & Yoga

    • The Asheville School of Massage & Yoga offers a massage therapy certification program consisting of 675 hours of instruction in massage, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology. Students also receive 100 hours of instruction on yoga, asana, pranayama and meditation. After each academic quarter the students receive supervised hands-on experience while working in the student massage clinic. Licensure requirement include graduation and passing the national certification exam for massage and bodywork therapy.

    Privai Academy

    • The Privai Academy offers a program consisting of 700 hours of massage instruction. Students learn concepts in medial massage, spa therapies and services, anatomy, pathology and business skills. Students also work in the student spa to gain hands-on experience. The academy also offers continuing education courses in massage and esthetics for those wanting to enhance their skills.

    Center for Massage & Natural Health

    • The Center for Massage & Natural Health, located in Asheville, offers a six-month, 600-hour massage and bodyworks certification program. Coursework includes science of the human body, professionalism and supervised hands-on experience. The school offers on-campus student housing and financial aid is available; students may apply for federal financial aid or other options such as scholarships and discounts, payment plans, AmeriCorps and VA benefits.

    The Whole You School of Massage

    • The Whole you School of Massage, located in Rutherfordton, offers both a school of bodyworks and massage as well as continuing education courses for those who want to enhance their skills. Student take courses in subjects such as Swedish massage, maternity/sports massage, reflexology, pathology and Shiatsu. The continuing education classes offered for professionals meet the requirements in North Carolina for recertification and license renewal.
