Hondros College's Dayton campus focuses on nursing, thus it is named the Dayton Nursing School. The institution offers what it calls a 1+1 LPN/RN Program. This means that people new to nursing can get an LPN diploma within a year, or continue their studies for one more year (or 1-1/2 years) to get the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) needed to become an RN. The RN track is also for students who are already LPNs. Hondros' nursing courses include The Role of the Nurse as an Educator, Psychosocial Nursing and Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing. Students need at least 69 credits to get the LPN diploma; for the ADN, it's 92 credits.
Among Wright State University's divisions is the Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health. It offers programs for aspiring RNs who wish to acquire more advanced or specialized training beyond the Associate's degree. Nursing students at WSU can choose between a Bachelor's and Master's degree, which are commonly referred to as the BSN and the MSN, respectively. People who are already RNs are eligible for enrollment in the RN-BSN track. Additionally, there is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program for those who wish to serve as nursing leaders, researchers or professors.
Kettering, a suburb of Dayton about a 15-minute drive away, has a Christian educational institution primarily dedicated to medical training. Called the Kettering College of Medical Arts, it has ADN and BSN programs for aspiring RNs, as well as an advanced placement in the former for people who are already LPNs. Students need at least 42 credits to complete the ADN and 64 credits for the BSN. Courses at Kettering College include Biblical Resources for Understanding Health Care, Wellness and Health Alterations, and The Role of the Professional Nurse in Health Promotion.
About a 19-minute drive from Dayton is the Fortis College campus at Centerville. There, students can choose between getting an LPN diploma or the ADN. Courses include subject areas such as basic nutrition, nursing fundamentals, lifespan development and surgical nursing.
