The Children's Institute for Learning Differences (CHILD) is a private school located in Mercer Island, Washington. CHILD serves children from age 3 to 17 that have learning differences and/or behavior disorders. CHILD helps students with social, emotional and neurological issues to achieve academic success by offering occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, emotional and behavioral therapy, life skills training and other individualized education support services. The Cotting School was founded in 1893, and it is located in Lexington, Massachusetts. The Cotting School serves approximately 120 students between the ages of 3 and 22 The private school works to enable students with diverse learning needs to achieve academic success and a level of independence. Students at the school have a broad spectrum of learning disabilities and physical challenges, so its integrated programs are equipped to meet a variety of student needs. The school offers day and residential programs to students.
The Siena School is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Founded in 2006, the school enrolls college-bound students in grades 4 through 12 that struggle from mild to moderate language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. The Siena School works to close the gap between students' intellectual abilities and academic achievements by helping them to overcome their learning difference in an encouraging environment. In order to be eligible for enrollment, student must not have a history of any behavioral or social troubles. They must also demonstrate above-average intellectual abilities. The school enrolls approximately 65 students.
The Horizons School was founded in 1991, and it is located in Birmingham, Alabama. The Horizons School is a private, non-degree, post-secondary school that serves approximately 225 young adults with mild learning disabilities and other handicapping conditions. The school identifies its core values of honesty, cooperation, compassion, courage, patience, respect and work ethic. These core values form its program, which works to educate and train students to become healthy and functional members of the community. The Horizons School teaches professional job skills and living skills to prepare students for independent life.
