Different types of nursing schools provide options for those who want to attend. There are traditional nursing schools that are a part of a university. These schools offer classes that lead to a B.S. in nursing. Also available to those that wish to enter this field are vocational schools that offer programs in Licensed Practical Nurse, Nursing Assistant and Medical Assistant. Several different institutions offering programs in the nursing field are located near Simi Valley, California.
  1. College of Nursing and Technology

    • The College of Nursing and Technology is 20 miles east of Simi Valley in Reseda, California. The institution offers a program in Licensed Vocational Nursing. The program consists of 1,650 clock hours of course work divided into three semesters. The program prepares students to take the NCLEX exam, a licensing examination to test entry-level nursing competency, upon completion. The school also offers Continuing Education Unit (CEU) courses, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and coming soon is a Medical Assisting program. The school does not participate in federal financial aid, therefore students will need to fund their education in alternative ways.

    Trinity School of Nursing

    • Located 20 minutes east of Simi Valley in Conoga Park, California, Trinity School of Nursing offers students various programs to begin their careers in the nursing field. Programs offered include; Certified Home Health Aide, Continuing Education Unit classes, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and a 150-hour Certified Nursing Assistant course. The courses are offered full and part-time, day, evening and weekend option. The school does not participate in federal financial aid. Students will need to secure independent financing.

    Annenberg School of Nursing

    • The Annenberg School of Nursing is located in the Grancell Village campus of the Los Angeles Jewish Home. The school is located in Reseda, California approximately 30 miles east of Simi Valley. The program offered at the school prepares students to become a licensed vocational nurse and take the NCLEX-PN to work as a practical nurse. Curriculum includes anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child nursing and supervising. It is a full-time program lasting 12 months and containing 1,041 hours of clinical instruction and 639 hours of theory (1,680 hours total). As of early 2011, tuition is $22,000 for the program. Federal financial aid is not available, however students may apply to the Jewish Free Loan Association and for interest-free deferred/forgivable loans from the Los Angeles Jewish Home. Interest-free financial assistance is available for up to $20,000.

    Moorpark College

    • Moorpark College is just five miles west of Simi Valley, California. The school offers an Associate Degree in Nursing accredited by the California State Board of Registered Nursing and by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission. This program prepares students to work as a registered nurse with direct patient care. The program itself consists of anatomy and physiology, general nursing applications and medical billing courses. Federal financial aid is available and students can complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine individual eligibility.
