This program is an intensive 36-week training program to give students a diversified education in food preparation. This instruction includes real-world experience in the form of an externship with a working chef. The program advertises that graduates will learn not only how to prepare quality cuisine, but also leave with a deeper understanding of the food service industry and the job opportunities it holds, along with a knowledge of, and ability to maintain, the professional standards of the profession.

The School of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management at Santa Barbara City College offers associate's degrees in Culinary Arts and Hospitality. The school offers training which places students in real environments to practice and hone what they learn in the classroom. These include training in the College's cafeteria, gourmet dinning room and coffee shop. Additionally, students complete work in their area of expertise in one of Santa Barbara's hospitality sector businesses. As of 2010, the program was able to offer scholarships ranging from $50 to $1,500 every semester.
