Ross Medical Education Center is located in the city of New Baltimore, within Macomb County, but also operates a number of campuses throughout the states of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. The center offers dental assistant courses, which prepare students for duties such as chair-side assisting responsibilities, instrument decontamination and preparation of anesthetic. After graduation, students are entitled to take national credentialing examinations to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).
Oakland Community College is situated in the city of Bloomfield Hills, Oakland County, 10 minutes by car from the southwest border of Macomb County. The college offers an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Dental Hygiene, for which students must complete a minimum of 73 or more required credit hours. Students can seek help from the Academic Support Center, for problems regarding strictly academic issues, while special English language courses are available to non-native speakers. Employment support also is provided, through internship programs, job-listing services and on-campus interviews with visiting employment organizations.
Located in the Detroit area close to the southern border of Macomb County, Wayne County Community College District offers two-semester certification programs in Dental Assisting and Dental Laboratory Technician. Furthermore, students can earn the three-year Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Dental Hygiene. The college operates six campuses around Detroit, all of which have strict safety guidelines and emergency procedures, due to their urban setting. The Dental Assisting and Dental Laboratory Technology Award, Dental Hygiene Scholarship, and Dental Hygiene Programs Instrument Award are available to outstanding students in the field.
Right on the border with Canada, in the city of Port Huron, Baker College offers a Certificate in Dental Assisting, as well as Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in the same subject and in Dental Hygiene. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Baker College also offers employment assistance to graduate students and current students who seek part-time employment to cover tuition costs. In addition, the Port Huron campus offers free financial-aid counseling at its Financial Aid bureau, to help students and parents with tuition cost management.
