At least a week before your graduation ceremony, you need to make sure that you know exactly when and where you're having your photo taken. If you're using a photographer supplied by your college, double check with the administration office when and where the pictures are to be taken and when you can expect to have your moment in front of the camera. If you're using a private photographer, confirm the time and place you'd like to have your picture taken. You don't want to be running late and turn up sweating and out of breath.
If you're hiring a gown and cap for your ceremony, it's in your interests to try them on well before it takes place. The last thing you want is to pick then up on the day and find that they're a poor fit or just don't suit you. Arrange a fitting time with your college or hire company if possible or ask for your robes to be delivered a few days early if you're using a mail order firm. This will give you time to make alternative arrangements if there are any problems.
Prepare your clothing for the ceremony the night before and give yourself plenty of time on the day to get ready. Although you're probably keen to celebrate the end of your studies, it's a good idea to get an early night before your big day and save any partying until afterward. You'll also benefit from looking fresher on the day if you were in bed early the night before instead of prematurely propping up the bar.
Just before having your photo taken, check yourself over in the mirror. Act naturally in front of the camera and remember that the resulting photo is going to be with you for a big chunk of your life. Ask the photographer if you can see the pictures he's taken and ask him to retake it if you're not happy with the results. If you're having a group photo taken, make sure you're pictured with a group friends you're particularly close to. You'll have fun looking back at it in years to come.
