Choose the type of stationery you wish to use. In some cases, the design and size of the card can affect the amount of space available for text, so you will need to consider limitations when wording the announcement.
Choose an introduction that suits you and your graduate. While introductions aren't traditional, some families elect to open their graduation announcements with a meaningful bible verse or a famous quote. An introduction is optional, but provides an opportunity to add a personal touch.
Write the invitation. This should include the graduate's name, class and degree. The most classic wording will be in the following format: Jay & Cathy Emonds proudly announce the graduation of their daughter, Lauren Emonds, Class of 2011, from Indiana State University School of Nursing with a bachelor of science in nursing.
Inform your invitees of the location and time. This section will follow the format, "Please share in their happiness at the graduation exercises Saturday, May twenty-ninth at one o'clock in the afternoon." Immediately follow this sentence with the address of the venue hosting the graduation ceremony and any relevant parking information.
Write instructions for the reception or party following the graduation ceremony in the following way: "Reception after the graduation ceremony at (time) (location)."
