Include the basic information. If you want people to attend your commencement ceremony, you will need to include the name of the school; the date, time and location of the ceremony; and what degree you will receive.
Keep the language formal. Save the funny comments or cute turns of phrase for a separate reception invitation.
Add any reception information to the formal announcement or as a separate invitation if there will be a reception or party in your honor. Include the time and place of the reception (including basic directions), and a telephone number or return card for guests to RSVP.
Indicate your gift preference. If you do not wish to receive any graduation gifts from family and friends, you will need to say so on the announcement. Not mentioning gifts at all indicates your willingness to accept small tokens of congratulation from your loved ones.
