Set up an outdoor carnival. Look for easy games that young kids will enjoy like ring toss, bocci ball and bean bag toss. Bring in table crafts like sand art and activities like face painting so all the kids have something to do. Remember no carnival is complete without balloons. Serve refreshments such as popcorn, flavored ice treats, corn dogs and fresh squeezed lemonade.
Turn the the playground into a small miniature golf course. Use an educational theme by making the holes related to school like hitting the ball through the door of the school bus, through a lunch box and through the door of a school building. Make the obstacles out of foam core or particle board and make the greens out of felt.
Let the kids, the parents and the staff relax with a picnic. Ask parents to lend grills and make hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch. Add fresh fruit and vegetables along with water and juice for a healthy meal. Bring out balls, hula hoops and jump ropes so the kids have things to play with before and after eating.
Set up a station for face painting, finger painting and sidewalk chalk drawing. Stagger the stations with food stations like frozen juice pops, fruit snacks and fresh water and juice. Let the kids go from one station to another and make sure each adult expresses their pride in the kids for their accomplishments throughout the school year.
