Ensure your educational institution meets all Educause eligibility requirements. This requires more than just program accreditation. Your institution itself must be fully approved by an accrediting agency.
Reference the Educause .edu accrediting agency list if your institution has not been accredited. This list is located on the Educause website in the eligibility section. (See Resource 1) If necessary, contact your regional accrediting agency and request a formal review and approval.
Decide on a domain name for your institution and confirm its availability through the "Name Availability Lookup" tool on the Educause website. (See Resource 2)
Agree to the Educause customer service agreement. You will be provided an electronic copy and asked to agree during your online request for a domain name.
Set a password that your administration will use to manage your Educause account. This password must be kept strictly confidential within your administration to avoid a potential breach of your system or the school's personal records.
Provide administrative, technical and billing contacts (most institutions will provide the heads of their specific tech support and financial departments) and your domain name server information. This can be found on the main server your institution is using to host the website. Your .edu website will be available online as soon as Educause approves your request.
