Locate the cover or title page of the textbook. The title page is usually on the first or second page of the textbook. It will list the textbook's information, such as the authors, editors, publishers and more.
Within your text, add proper in-text citations. To reference the textbook, write the author's name followed by a superscript that corresponds to the number of the source on the reference list. If you are taking a reference from a specific page in the textbook, then include the page number in the parentheses immediately following the reference number in the superscript. For example: Like many authors, Doe[1(p.5)] confirms these techniques. Put the information that appears here in brackets into superscript.
Format the textbook's citation information in the reference list in the following order for an edited collection of works: the author; the title of the article; the editor, the title of book, the place of publication, the publisher; the year of publication; and the pages used. For example: Doe J. Citing a textbook in AMA format. In: Smith B, ed. Proper Citing Techniques. New York, NY: Doe Publishing; 2011:1-9.
Use the following format on your reference list if your textbook is written by a single author: the author; the title of the book; the edition number; the place of publication: publisher's name; the year of publication. For example: Smith B. Proper Citing Techniques. 2nd ed. New York, NY: Doe Publishing; 2011.
