How to Apply for the NROTC

Young college-bound adults may decide to seek a career in the armed forces such as the Navy or Marines within these armed forces. The young adult can enroll in the Navy Reserves Officers Training Corps (NROTC). This program gives commissioned college graduates the chance to learn the basic training necessary to become naval officers. For a college graduate to qualify, you must be between the ages of 17 to 23 and possess the appropriate college credits.

      Possess all required information before filling out the application. Have your ACT/SAT score for the NROTC scholarship program. You must have qualifying scores of 22 for math and 22 for verbal on the ACT. Scores of 520 for math and 530 for verbal are required for the SAT.

      Log into the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps website (nrotc.navy.mil) to complete an application. Carefully check the URL field and click on the link that contains the "https" representing a secure site. Select the link labeled, "Fill out the Application." Type in your personal information, such as your name, address and phone number.

      Submit the online application. Possess four teacher evaluations when applying for the 4-year Navy Scholarship. The evaluations must be from a math teacher, English teacher, a coach or teacher of choice and a guidance counselor. Have a science teacher evaluation in place of the math teacher evaluation if applying for the NROTC nurse corps. The teachers can complete the evaluations online through the NROTC website.

      Schedule an officer interview, along with a strong interest inventory, at your local recruiting station. Dress accordingly for the 45-minute interview. After the interview, await notification from the Chief of Naval Recruiting Command regarding your application acceptance.
