The didactic portion of this program is designed to be completed in no more than three years, with students studying at their own pace. In addition to the didactic requirements, students complete 18 weeks of experiential practice. Required courses include an introduction to clinical problem solving, drug and medical informatics, drug literature evaluation and statistics and pharmacotherapy.

Students are given a maximum of three years to complete the didactic portion and no more than two years for the experiential portion of the program. Howard University offers a nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy degree program that is designed to be completed online in two years of study. Students are only required to visit the campus twice for weekend orientation throughout the entire two years of study and can enroll into the program in either the spring or fall semester. Required courses include biostatistics and biotechnology and integrated pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of musculoskeletal disease system.
