Eastern Kentucky University offers an online program in undergraduate studies in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology. EKU has offered its on-campus program since 1975, and the new online program includes two different academic concentrations. The Fire Administration curriculum focuses on fire prevention, fire behavior, fire protection systems and principles of emergency services. The EKU program on Fire Protection Engineering Technology includes application of research and current fire protection concepts.

The University of Maryland major in Fire Science focuses on the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for students pursuing a leadership career in fire protection. The curriculum includes disaster planning and the administration of fire-protection services and offers a broad scope of fire management study. It covers inter-agency coordination, fire prevention, emergency management, safety and arson investigation. The curriculum also includes study in personnel management, disaster planning, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) management, structure and system design, and the role of fire service agencies in the community. Developed in conjunction with the National Fire Academy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the program is targeted toward students wishing to pursue careers in executive management and senior leadership positions.

EOU conducts the program in partnership with Western Oregon University, Chemeketa Community College, and Portland Community College.
