    Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science

    • The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science offers an American Board of Funeral Service Education-certified associate's degree program in funeral service arts and science and a mortuary science diploma in embalming and funeral directing. Online courses run eight weeks each and include offerings such as communication skills, anatomy, restorative art, funeral service law, management and ethics, pathology and embalming chemistry. In order to earn an associate's degree, students must take co-requisite computer science and accounting courses that the institute does not offer through another college, on-campus or online.

The embalming laboratory portion involves eight days of on-campus study that can be completed at a funeral home near the student, if the student is employed by the funeral home. After completing five semesters at the institute, students may transfer credits toward a bachelor's degree in mortuary science from Point Park University that can be earned in two additional full-time semesters.
