Rasmussen College, founded in 1900, offers pharmacy technician training through its online program. Coursework includes structure and pathology of the human body, introduction to pharmacy, pharmacy math and dosages and career development. The school prepares students to become certified pharmacy technicians. Its career placement staff help students prepare resumes, cover letters and practice interview techniques, as well as how to search for employment as a pharmacy technician. Excelsior College, founded in 1971, offers pharmacy technician training through its online program. Coursework includes processing and dispensing prescriptions, labeling requirements, pharmacy law and ethics and inventory control. The 300-hour program is instructor-facilitated rather than self-paced. The pharmacy technician program includes a hands-on externship at Walgreens, where students spend about 20 to 40 hours assisting a pharmacist and answering customer questions.
