Medical Schools in Mexico

Mexico, the United States’ neighbor to the south, is a constitutional republic that is home to about 111 million people, according to the CIA's World Factbook. The country has a rich history and culture as well as an extensive medical system. There are a wide range of medical schools in Mexico, some very highly rated, that attract students from all over the world.
  1. Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine

    • Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine, founded in 1935, is the oldest private university in Mexico. UAG is an independent nonprofit institution accredited by the Mexican Federal Secretary of Public Education.

      The medical school at UAG includes courses in anatomy, nutrition, immunology, physiology, neuroscience, pharmacology and surgery. The school offers off-campus training, including options to work at hospitals in the United States and Puerto Rico. The medical school curriculum also includes programs in the community that offer free health services and education for poverty-stricken populations.

    Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico

    • Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, located in the southern part of Mexico City, is a large public university founded in 1910. The main campus of the university was built on a solidified lava bed and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

      The School of Medicine, located on the main campus, includes subjects such as immunology, pathology, surgery, public health, physiology, psychology and biology. The medical school includes three libraries for resources as well as internship and lab work requirements. The school focuses on medicine and science, with an emphasis on helping people.

    Autonomous University of Puebla School of Medicine

    • The Autonomous University of Puebla School of Medicine is located in Puebla, in the south of Mexico. The university was founded in 1587 by the Society of Jesus, and in 1937 became a public university.

      The School of Medicine is 175 years old and offers courses in biology, dermatology, physiology, genetics, immunology, kinesiology, neurology, nutrition, orthopedics, bioethics, obstetrician, sexology and oncology. Facilities include the Science Institute, dedicated to studies of natural science; the Institute of Physiology; and laboratories for studying disease, biology and immunology.
