Meharry Medical's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program consists of a four-year residency geared toward meeting the requirements for certification demanded by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, while a General Practice Residency program focuses on public health service and care for special needs patients.     Fisk University

    • In association with Meharry Medical College, Fisk University offers a joint pre-medical program permitting a Fisk student to enter Meharry as a candidate for a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. Fisk also offers programs designed to increase the number of African-American physicians in the form of an eight-year intensive program in partnership with Meharry, which includes three-to-four years study at Fisk and four years study at Meharry Medical.

    Tennessee State University

    • Tennessee State University's Department of Dental Hygiene offers an Associate of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Science degree completion program; graduates of either program are eligible for the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination and Regional and State Board Examinations throughout the country. The Commission on Dental Accredidation accredits TSU's Dental Hygiene program.

    Remington College

    • Remington College is a career school accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. The college's Nashville campus offers an Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene; this program, which can completed in as little as two years, is accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation and designed to prepare students for the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam or other required state or regional medical examinations. In addition, Remington offers a Dental Assisting diploma designed to help recipients qualify for entry-level dental assistant positions. This program can be completed in as few as eight months.
