The Indiana University School of Medicine opened in 1903 in Indianapolis. It's the fourth medical school in the U.S. to mandate students to have an associates or bachelors degree for admission. Connected to the medical school is the Indiana University Hospital in the heart of the city of Indianapolis. Medical students get on-site training dealing with the common cold to terminal cancer. There over 90 medical specialties programs taught to students at this university.
As of April 2010, Indiana University School of Medicine has the second largest medical student body in the U.S. Enrollment is extremely competitive. According to the school's website, in 2009 they received more than 2,598 applications, but only accepted 330 students.

Indiana University School of Medicine has a separate branch located on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The campus is located in South Bend, Indiana and students are considered to be Notre Dame graduate students. The school has smaller class sizes compared to the Indianapolis medical school. The average size of classes is around 16 students. Students receive clinical experience at South Bend's two largest hospitals.

Marian Catholic University is a private institution with around 3,000 students. Marian University is working with Indiana University to open a College of Osteopathic Medicine. According to the Indiana Business Journal, this Osteopathic program will help send more graduates into primary care where there is a current demand for more doctors in this field.
