The Harvard Medical School within Harvard University has developed a new program called the New Pathway MD program, with 135 spots available annually. Students benefit from small, interactive classes in which classroom discussion is encouraged and required. The fundamentals of practicing medicine are taught through a problem-based approach instead of strictly through textbooks. Students are required to conduct their own research and are given the tools necessary to become life-long learners. Harvard Medical School also offers PhD programs in virology, neuroscience, immunology and biomedical sciences.
