The Bill Wilkerson Center's department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at Vanderbilt University offers an array of degreed programs in audiology including those specializing in speech-language pathology and several masters' degrees and doctorates of audiology. Founded in 1951, the school logs more than 50,000 patient visits each year. The Center's facilities include clinics for speech-language pathology, otolaryngology and rehabilitation. Research is emphasized in the speech, language, and hearing laboratories, as well as the school's anechoic chamber. Vanderbilt's audiology programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Offering courses to both undergraduates and graduates, the University of Iowa's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders aims to prepare students for careers in teaching, research and clinical service in the fields of language, speech and hearing disorders and processes. The undergraduate curriculum includes internships, introductory courses, seminars, research and an honors thesis. Graduate students can select from a wide variety of specialized curricula in such topics as advanced and medical audiology, acoustics of speech, swallowing disorders and stuttering.

Part of the University of Washington's College of Arts and Sciences, the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department hosts programs for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. An array of curricula allow students to specialize in niche studies such as hearing science, psychoacoustics, speech and language acquisition, speech production and transmission, speech perception and human communication disorders as well as their prevention and remediation. As of May 2010, the school boasted a staff of 18 professors and research instructors and 16 lecturers and clinical instructors. Fourteen emeritus and affiliates round out the staff.
