The top ranked schools for education were ranked in 2010 by U.S. News & World Report. Characteristics that set many of these programs apart from their counterparts in collegiate education are the variety of degrees offered at both graduate and undergraduate levels, along with the many areas of specialization offered within these different degree programs. Advanced research at the master's degree and doctoral level leading to new knowledge in the field is also a common shared characteristic.

In actuality, Stanford tied with Harvard University for the No. 3 spot in the rankings. Stanford's education program, like many of its other programs, offers interdisciplinary emphases within its various degree programs.
