How to Remove a Scalpel Blade

Scalpels are precision medical instruments, used for almost all cuts during modern surgery and dissection. Holding and handling a scalpel carefully is important as a safety precaution. Changing a scalpel blade can be difficult, both in identifying the proper blade type and size, as well as the actual removal of the blade. Removing a blade is fairly simple, yet it is important to be extra careful to avoid injury.

Hold the handle of the scalpel with the blade pointed away from your body. Rotate the scalpel until the entire removable blade is facing upward.
