How to Remove Dents on Tubas

A tuba is prone to getting dents and nicks. While some musicians prefer to buy a new instrument to play during their shows, there are many more who develop a certain attachment to their original instrument. If your tuba already has a few dents from a lot playing, you can remove these dents with the help of a few household materials. You do not need to buy a new one or pay a lot of money for a specialist to repair the damages for you. Here is how you can remove the dents on your tuba on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the tuba with hot water. Unscrew the mouthpiece from the tuba with your fingers if it is the only part that needs repair. Rinse the instrument thoroughly by rubbing your hands on the tuba while running it with hot water.

    • 2

Dry the tuba with paper towels and identify the dents that need repair.

    • 3

Remove the guard of the tuba, or its surrounding cover with your fingers. This will allow you to get a clearer view of the dents on your instrument.

    • 4

Spray furniture polish on the dented surface of the tuba.

    • 5

Run the magnetic dent removal device on the tuba, allowing the magnetic ball inside the shield to pull the dents forward and bring your tuba back in shape. Do not rub the device too hard to avoid scratching the tuba. Do this for about 3 to 5 minutes, or until all the dents have been repaired.

    • 6

Reattach the guard of the tuba and start playing the instrument.
