  1. Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry

    • Georgia's only dental school, Medical College of Georgia (MCG), is located in Augusta and accepts approximately 60 students to its program each year. Degrees available at MCG's School of Dentistry include a doctor of dental medicine (DMD) and a master of science (M.S.) or doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.). in oral biology.

      The school's DMD program requires four years of coursework in clinical sciences, oral biology, and behavioral management and sciences and, includes early hands-on experience with patients.

      As of 2010, MCG's School of Dentistry only accepts Georgia residents and requires specific coursework and scores on the Dental Admission Test (DAT) for admittance to the program.

    Morehouse School of Medicine

    • The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) has 12 academic programs of study including pediatrics, surgery, neurobiology, and family medicine. MSM received full accreditation as a medical school in 1981 and was the first of its kind at a historically black college.

      Grady Memorial Hospital serves as the school's patient care and clinical training facility for MSM's approximately 330 medical students. Graduates of Morehouse School of Medicine may earn a doctor of medicine (M.D.) degree, an M.S. or Ph.D. in several areas of specialty.

    Emory University School of Medicine

    • Located in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, Emory University School of Medicine has a 150-year history educating prospective physicians and other medical professionals. More than 1,800 full-time faculty members and 900 volunteer instructors teach four phases of courses to medical students, including Foundations of Medicine, Applications of Medical Sciences, and Translation of Medical Sciences. Students are also assigned to one of four society groups, each with its own advisor and mentor group of four practicing physicians.

      A 162,000 square-foot teaching facility opened in 2007 at Emory and was specifically built for medical education. Admission requirements at Emory University School of Medicine include achieving satisfactory Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores, letters of recommendation from individuals who work in the sciences, prerequisite coursework, an acceptable grade point average, and a day-long personal interview with committee members.
