Caribbean Universities Which Offer Clinical & Laboratory Studies

Caribbean Universities offer entrants opportunities in clinical and laboratory studies. Ross University, St. George's University, and the University of the West Indies are some examples of such institutions; they merge both clinical and laboratory studies into clinical studies.

    • Latex gloves and sterilizing needles are essential tools when conducting clinical and lab studies.

      Ross University School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine both have a clinical sciences curriculum. In a student's fifth semester, he is immersed in the advanced introduction to clinical medicine course. Ross University also awards students with clinical clerkships, where they learn and make use of core skills in carrying out physical evaluations and diagnosis. The programs which form the nucleus of clinical studies are medicine, gynecology/obstetrics, pediatrics, surgery, and family medicine.

    • Another internationally known Caribbean university that has clinical offerings is the University of the West Indies. With several campuses located in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, and Barbados, the Faculty of Medical Sciences, based at the Mona campus in Jamaica, extends to the School of Clinical Studies & Research, the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit, and University Hospital of the West Indies. The Clinical Trial Centre in Jamaica aids in laboratory studies and research where medical students undertake clinical trials sponsored by the faculty.

    St. George's University

    • At St. George's University, the duration of the clinical studies program is 80 weeks. Comprising medicine, surgery, pediatrics, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, and clinical studies, St. George's University educates between 80-100 students each semester at its clinical centers. Students engage in clinical internships, clerkships, and rotations. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approves the clinical studies programs. In clinical studies at St. George's, students gain the necessary skills to further medical education in postgraduate training.
