Pathology is the study of disease by determining the causes and effects, as well as the diagnosis and spread, of a disease through organs and body fluids. Pathology involves studying the effects of disease on the body through performing autopsy. This field is considered a medical science and is taught by the medical schools of many colleges.     • The University of Iowa Department of Pathology offers top clinical programs in the areas of anatomic pathology, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and molecular pathology. Depending on which area of study a student pursues, the programs involve classes ranging from cytology and electron microscopy in the school of anatomic pathology, to bone marrow labs and core hematology in the hematology school, to core chemistry.     • Northwestern University has a top clinical pathology program and is located in Chicago, Illinois. A few of the areas of clinical study are the cytopathology fellowship program, the neuropathology fellowship program, the surgical pathology fellowship program, and the hematopathology fellowship program.
