Motivational Activities for LSAT Preparation

It can be difficult to study for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Not only are the sections challenging, but it can be hard to concentrate for an extended period. Few people like to study for hours on end. It might be tough to find motivation at times. However, there are various activities you can do to help you stay motivated for your LSAT preparation.
  1. Watch a Movie

    • Take a short study break and watch one of your favorite movies about lawyers. Consider watching "12 Angry Men," "My Cousin Vinny," "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "Erin Brockovich." Each film will remind you of why you're studying for the LSAT. Visualize yourself in place of the main character. This will allow you to see yourself doing what you're setting out to do.

    Listen to Music

    • Listen to music that inspires you and puts you in a good mood. Use music to momentarily clear your mind from LSAT preparation. Think of how great you will be in your future career. Find songs that'll get you pumped up.

    Reflect on Your Future

    • Look at the list of best law schools ranked by U.S. News and World Report (see Resources). Click on various schools to find information, including their website addresses. Go to the website for a list of admission requirements, including the range of LSAT scores. You can also find this information on the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) website if you've already registered to take the LSAT. Don't psych yourself out when assessing your options. Instead, realize that through hard work and effective preparation you could attend the law school of your choice.

    Plan a Vacation

    • Motivate yourself for LSAT preparation by planning a vacation. Plan a trip you will embark on if you attain your desired LSAT score. Each time you struggle with motivation, remind yourself of your pending vacation. Write out an itinerary and find photos to help you visualize your destination. You can continue to add to it during your study break.

    Form a Study Group

    • Join a study group for motivation. Discuss problems with motivation, timing, pacing and other issues. Ensure that your group focuses on improvement and learning and practicing the material rather than complaining or excessive socializing. If you're unable to form a group in your area, use Law School Discussion services (see Resources).
