The College Level Exam Program (CLEP) is a great way to get college level courses out of the way by using knowledge you have already acquired. Over 1,400 dedicated testing centers are located at colleges and universities across the United States. Most test centers charge a nonrefundable administration fee in addition to the fee for the exam. Preparing for the CLEP exam is not difficult.       Obtain your college policy concerning CLEP coursework credits. Policies vary, but most colleges limit the total number of credits awarded through CLEP tests. This is very important because you do not want to test out and discover your credits will not be accepted. You should also get the minimum acceptable score at this time.

      Purchase the updated Official CLEP Study Guide. Here you will find information about every exam offered with a discussion of the topic and sample test you can use to place your skill level in the topic of your choice. Answers to sample test questions are provided. You may wish to locate a college textbook for more study to refresh your memory. This can be helpful, but look at the sample test questions because these are the kind of questions you will find on the exam. If you do not wish to purchase the Official CLEP Study Guide, you may purchase individual study guides on the college board CLEP website.

      Assess your level of readiness. After you take the sample test, you will establish your readiness level. Only you can decide how much study prep time you need. Some students study 2 hours per day for 3 weeks or more. Others extend study time up to 3 months per exam.
