MBA Application Checklist

A master's of business administration (MBA) is one of the more sought-after graduate degrees. It lends a certain air of expertise to graduates, and many jobs reward MBA earners with faster promotion opportunities and higher salaries. The process of applying for an MBA program requires diligence and organization. Care needs to be taken to ensure the submission of the proper documentation for the program of your choice.
  1. Application

    • Take your time when you fill out your MBA application to ensure accuracy. Fill it out in its entirety and don't leave areas blank. If something does not apply to you, then fill in "N/A." Read it over carefully for misspellings or errors, as a sloppy application can get only you turned down.

    Resume

    • Because this is a professional program, you need to convey a professional attitude when you submit your application package. Your resume should reflect any professional experience you have had up to this point, as well as pertinent educational credentials. Make sure the resume is free of errors and has a clean, simple layout.

    Admissions Essay

    • This is one of the most important aspects of your application package and certainly the most compelling. Your essay conveys your professional and personal goals and how entry into an MBA program falls in line with those goals. Keep your essay pointed, simple and professional. Don't ramble or try to impress the admissions team with too many personal details about the hardships in your life. Remember, the idea is to show them -- through your essay -- why you are a good candidate for the MBA program.

    Letters of Recommendation

    • Because MBA programs are so competitive, a few of the things that sets you apart from others are your letters of recommendation. You should have several and they should be from a variety of people: past and current employers, professors with whom you had a positive relationship and prominent members of your community that you know personally. The more varied your letters, the better it looks.
