Pharmacy Tech School Requirements in New York State

More than 326,000 people worked as pharmacy technicians in the United States in 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Technicians assist pharmacists by measuring medication, placing it in prescription bottles, labeling prescriptions and assisting customers who come to pick up their medication. The bureau predicts that employment opportunities for pharmacy technicians will increase by 25 percent between 2008 and 2018. If you're ready to study for a career in this field and you live in New York, expect to meet these requirements to enroll in a pharmacy technician program.
  1. Application Form

    • New York schools that offer pharmacy technician programs expect you to complete an application form. You may need to submit a non-refundable application fee at the time you submit your application.

    Transcripts

    • If you have graduated from high school or obtained a GED, the college will need an official copy of your transcript or equivalency diploma. Those who completed high school outside of the United States must submit translated copies of their documents and, in some cases, these copies must be notarized. If you are transferring to the school from another college, you'll need to have copies of your college transcripts sent as well.

    Testing

    • Some schools require that incoming students take assessment exams, regardless of their past education. Other schools administer these exams for those who have not completed high school.

    Immunizations

    • Students born in 1957 or later may need to submit proof they have been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella.

    Interview

    • Those applying to Sanford-Brown must participate in a telephone or in-person interview with one of the school's admissions representatives.
