Requirements for Furman College

Furman University is a liberal arts college located in Greenville S.C. Furman is a private university with an 11 to 1 student to faculty ratio and an average class size of 18 students.   1. General Admission Paperwork

    • To apply for general admission at Furman University, all potential Transfer and First Year Students must submit their application by the Regular Decision Deadline which occurs in the beginning of January. In addition to an application, all potential students must provide their secondary school report which is provided in the application, official high school transcripts and official SAT or ACT test scores. There is an optional Teacher Recommendation which may be submitted by potential students.

    Common Application

    • To start the application process, all potential students (both Transfer and First Year students) must complete the Common Application. To start this you may click on the Common Application Link in the resources section of this article. If you complete the form online, there is no charge for the application. However if you choose to print and mail, the application there is a $50 application fee. You will need your name, date of birth, social security number, address, parents' marital status and household information to start this application. Furman University does not have minimum GPA or Standardized Test Score guidelines for admission to the university. Instead, they take a holistic approach to the admission process and take into account Advanced Placement classes, extra circular activities, and honors courses as part of the admissions process, so it will be important to stress these factors in your application for admission.

    High School Transcripts

    • You can request your official transcripts from your high school by contacting the school's main office. They may have forms for you to fill out with identifying information. Your high school must send the transcripts directly to the university.

      To get a copy of your college transcripts you will need to go to your college's registrar office and request an official copy of your transcripts.

    Secondary School Report

    • The secondary school report is to be completed by your high school guidance counselor or another school official who knows you well. If you are applying online, be ready to provide the guidance counselor or other school official's contact information. If applying via mail, please provide the Secondary School Report form and an addressed stamped envelope.     Submit Test Scores

    • All potential first year students must submit ACT or SAT and standardized writing test scores. The code for Furman University on the SAT is 5222 and for the ACT is 3858.
