The Department of Construction Management at Colorado State University offers graduate, undergraduate and professional construction management programs. The professional development course awards a construction management certificate. This program has classes in the evenings and on weekends, so people who are already working in construction can participate. The primary attendees are superintendents and construction managers who have construction experience, but no formal training.
The undergraduate program provides a bachelor’s degree and has 26 courses including an internship requirement. Students can reduce the number of internship hours if they have 500 hours of work experience.
The graduate program awards a master’s degree in construction management. Students can satisfy their own interests and goals while completing a research thesis or professional research paper. The university also offers a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Construction Management specialization. Dissertation topics have to relate to construction management.

Redstone College awards an associate degree in construction management. The program focuses on construction science, construction management and business. Students have labs where they get hands on experience with estimating, planning and project management.
The academic course work covers construction concepts for commercial and residential buildings, construction materials and construction methods. The business training helps students become leaders and to manage the kind of complex organizations that are needed for building. Students also learn the business of managing the behind-the-scenes activities necessary to maintain and track progress schedules, oversee job site activities and build quantity surveys.
Students who complete the courses have a thorough knowledge of construction materials and their uses and limitations. They also know the organizational structures of typical construction projects and they have the communication skills needed to operate effectively in the construction environment. They know construction’s history and can see trends developing in the industry that will be affecting projects.

Westwood College offers an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in construction management. Graduates go on to fill jobs as assistant project managers, superintendents, estimators and field managers. The three main areas of specialty are construction science, construction management and business.
Construction science covers the materials and methods used in construction including trends in green building. Construction management and the business portions of the course work focus on project management, accounting, safety, estimating, performance management, and building codes and inspections. A student who completes the bachelor's program has a deeper understanding of construction processes and materials and is prepared more fully for supervising an entire project.
